This place was amazing staff was absolutely friendly. The food i exp3cted to be good bit i was shocked surprised astonished how good it was. We ate so much food we had expected the bill to be ridiculous but to our surprise it was little and nothing. I would eat at this place everyday if i had the choice. Truly 5 star for environment taste and price.
MoreHidden gem. Chef Waldo clearly loves what he does. It shows in his smiling face and his eagerness to chat with his patrons. It shows in the amazing food. Just call before you go. It's a small family run affair and may not be open if there's a special event or somesuch.
MoreRefused to allow payment with cc because we had a groupon. Also charged us for using groupon and then charged us tax and tip for cash payment. Food was okay but i would not recommend this place for the shady ways.
MoreSuper friendly people and amazing food! Even plain rice there is something absolutely special.
MoreI won’t come back. My dinner to go was microwave! I was not happy, not Satisfied. I do not recommend. Don’t waste your money or time. They get 1 star because the owner was very friendly.
MoreThis is by far the best Peruvian/Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurant I have visited in a long time. The attention to detail on the dishes is phenomenal. Once you start eating something magical happens in your mouth, the explosion of flavors and the variety of ingredients makes the food out of this world. I ordered the beef with gandules, it comes with fried plantains and rice with so much flavor. Also tried the spicy seafood creamy soup. Everything was delicious, and the service, you can't get more personalized than this, Chef Waldo himself recommends you what to eat and tailors your dish for you. The place is very cozy and romantic, it reminds you of a upscale restaurant in a smaller version but once you taste the food, it takes you to a different level. I will most definitely recommend.
MoreBeautiful people fresh food great service ❤ cozy atmosphere
A great chef and host. Mr. Waldito and family treated me like family. The food is cook fresh and is great. One of the best latin American / Peruvian restaurant in Texas. I'll definitely come back again and again.
MoreSo this is definitely a "Mom and Pop " operation. There are only 7-8 tables (I didn't count ) with a buffet type of set up in the back You can order of of the menu or they will serve you from the buffet area We chose the buffet food and received chicken, two kinds of rice and beans, fried plantains, a tamale and some other stuff. The food is most definitely homemade and absolutely delicious. They also have a self serve soup area where they had seafood, chicken or beef. I had the chicken and it was good. I tried the seafood soup and it was very spicy and excellent. If you are looking for authentic home cooking from this area this is definitely a must. Thanks for a great meal!
MoreThe hospitality alone would've merited a positive review, but the way El Ceviche de Waldito manages to execute it's delicious fusion of latin cuisines makes it one of the best local eateries in San Antonio.
MoreTea was great. Plantains were great. I'm vegan and could appreciate there was 2 kinds, of rice, and 2 kinds of beans, and a veggie stew for me to enjoy.
MoreYou will feel like home. You are eating your grandma’s food! The Chef will serve your food and welcome you. Small restaurant. This is jewel! Staring today, this is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio for Latin American cuisine. Recomiendo este restaurante al 100%!!! Comes como en casa.
MoreIn my top 10 for best restaurants I've ever eaten at. Amazing food and the nicest chef around. You're definitely family there.
MoreGreat food. Chef Waldo welcomes every guest, and serves each plate with plenty to fill you up. Food is delicious and we'll prepared. Definitely recommend visiting.
MoreAmazing and friendly. Didn't know what to expect and the owner greeted me, took me to the buffet and plated up a random selection. The flavors blend together perfectly. Can't wait to come back!
MoreThe food is excellent. The restaurant is small and inconspicuous. Don't blink or you might miss out. You will be very disappointed if you miss this place. The weekday buffet is outstanding. Chef Waldo greets you and serves up some awesome Peruvian dishes.
MoreChef Waldo and his wife Josie are such fantastically wonderful people and it comes out in their food. Home style Peruvian food, order from menu or have a great buffet experience. Buffet has chicken two ways, roast pork, jicama, brown and black beans, white and yellow rice, plantains and more. Two thumbs up from Mr. Fancy!
MoreExcellent food. Owner very nice
As I opened the door of this small establishment and took a deep breath, my mind took a long trip back home to Puerto Rico. With just a smell of the place I found my emotions seated at my mother’s table with my family around me. The environment is relaxing, family setting. When it got to the food it took me to a higher level of comfort and pleasure. The courtesy and friendship combined with the flavors and the smells left me in a state of ecstasy. Come see Chef Waldito and leave satisfied. More than physical, emotionally catered as well.
MoreMost wonderful friendly restaurant in town! The food is absolutely amazing!! Chef waldo cooks up great food and smiles
MoreIn my opinion these positive reviews are based on the experience you have with the owner and not the food. The owner does a great job of making you feel at home. The food however is terrible. Chicken is mediocre, a lot of the food was room temperature. Burnt and oddly tasting vegetables. Bread was bland. The worst was the dessert bar. Marshmallows from a bag, terrible looking fruit and cheap store bought cookies? I expected way more from a chef as highly decorated as he seems to be. Not worth the drive. Sadly I would not recommend this place to anyone.
MoreI originally found this place yesterday, scanning through Google maps for a place to have dinner. I called, was told that the place is quite full, and essentially cannot accommodate us.The reviews piqued my interest so after church, we headed over to try their lunch buffet. El Ceviche is a very intimate place. It's a seriously delicious home-cooked and authentic meal. The Peruvian chicken was seasoned very well. There were several sauces but the chicken didn't need any at all. Loved the chicken with the tasty yellow rice. I had the seafood soup, not knowing that it was spicy. It was some serious heat! The fruit-infused iced tea was free-flowing. Truly a hidden gem! Chef Waldo's cooking has been recognized with many articles and awards, which covers one of the walls of the restaurant. He's quite friendly and made us feel welcomed.
MoreAbsolutely love this restaurant. Chef Waldo and Josie are such warming hosts, they honestly make you feel like family. Food is delicious and very well prepared. My favorite soup is the seafood one, nice and spicy. Small cozy environment.
MoreExcellent quality. Excellent Price. Extremely Friendly chef. Sr. Waldito and his (wife?) are very kind. I love the food here. Sometimes, the soup is very spicy, but they warn you. It'll clear your head and is very refreshing.I love Walditos. I just wish I could go there more often. If I ever cater an event, I will speak with Sr. Waldito.
MoreI've got a coupon and have driven by this place like 3 or 4 times in the last 3 months. They're closed everytime during regular business hours. As far as I'm concerned, this placed closed down.
MoreYou must go, Chef Waldo is very helpful and his food is off the hook!
If you want an authentic experience with the best local owner there is. This is the spot. Extremely Homie, AMAZING FOOD. (My favorite is Ceviche pescado) a classic peruvian dish that’s hard to get in Texas. Chef Waldito definitely made a customer for life between the food and atmosphere. 10 Stars PS. Don’t let the storefront fool you. This place is the bomb
MoreVery homey atmosphere with homemade food for sure for only ~7$. Delicious meal with fried plantain in the sauce ;)
MoreAward winning chef and owner took the time to ask us how we were enjoying our food. The buffet of Peruvian, Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes of chicken, pork, vegetables and seafood soup tasted like we were eating from an authentic local kitchen . The complimentary fruit tea was a delightful bonus with our buffet. It's located in a strip mall within an ethnic part of town. Such a delight. Don't miss this culinary experience!
MoreA wonderful small buffet owned by Peruvian chef. We got a hostel close to it just because of his chicken. Thank you Waldo! Because of you, our experience with broken car in Texas was better than it could be.
MoreDelicious ceviche ever I tasted!!!
Fantastic food and the owner is a hoot to talk to. I recommend it to everyone.
Love the place!!Food is amazing. Whatever you ask is so damn good. Chef Waldo is such a great person, very friendly. Be ready to have an awesome time.
MoreAccidentally stumbled upon this place but SO glad we did. Don’t let the outside fool you- it is definitely the quintessential ‘hole-in-the-wall’ place with AMAZING food from the heart. Take a look at the walls and it is evident from the accomplishments and accolades Waldo has received over 35 years that he is passionate about his heritage, culture, and food. We had the the Ceviche Mixto (cold dish) and Ceviche with Mussels (hot dish) and both were excellent. We came in for lunch, but you can also bring in your own beer and wine for a romantic and quiet dinner. A outstanding experience and excellent prices. My new favorite place to eat and recommend to anyone wanting to get a true depiction of the hospitality and culture of San Antonio.
MoreFriendly owner and even better food! I love the soup selections!
Good ceviche, but the calamari was not edible
Great food and service, would highly recommend...Went there with eight coworkers and the Chef was very friendly just perfect for a small restaurant ...
MoreChef Waldo greeted with us with a smile and warm welcome. The atmosphere is inviting and made us like family. The food is OUTSTANDING! Chef Waldo served us generous portions and the food is full of flavor. You can tell Chef Waldo takes pride in his food. We will be coming back with friends and family to enjoy the experience as well! 👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼
MoreGreat place to eat and very friendly chef
